Captain's Away Day at New Zealand Golf Club

At 5.15am on Friday 8th June, our enthusiastic and committed members met at South Herts to board the bus for a journey down to the New Zealand Golf Club in Surrey.

After battling the M25 morning traffic, everyone arrived at the New Zealand Club at 7.30am and we were greeted with a warm welcome from the hosts including much needed coffees and bacon rolls. With a two-tee start on the 1st and the 6th holes, our first two sets of players took to the tees at 8.15am with the last set heading out at 9.33am. The morning rounds consisted of two different competitions which included an Individual Stableford event and a Team Stableford event. There were prizes for the top 3 scoring men and the top 3 scoring ladies.

Congratulations to the winner of the Men's individual Stableford David Freedman (40 points) and Runners-Up Brandon Goldsober (36 points c.b) and Matthew Sullivan (36 points).

Congratulations to the winner of the Ladies individual Stableford Nicki Harris (40 points) and Runners-Up Jill Telford (35 points c.b) and Natalya Allan (35 points).

For the team stableford event, the winners were decided by the best two scorers from three players.

Finishing on top was the team of Ian Blackman, Jonathan Bourn and Matthew Sullivan with a combined score of 88 points.

In a very close 2nd place was Nicki Harris, Jill Telford & Susan Knudsen with a score of 87!

The 18th hole was chosen for the longest drive and the winner of the men was our Captain, Wayne Hough. Our ladies winner was, once again, Nicki Harris. Simon Cooper won the prize for Nearest the pin on the 5th hole.

After the morning rounds had been completed, everyone came in for a traditional 4-course Surrey Lunch with various wines. With some tired legs and full tummies, the players went out for their afternoon rounds. The format of the afternoon was a 10 hole Greensomes Stableford.

In 1st place was Ian Blackman and Jonathan Bourn with a total score of 24 points and in 2nd place with a total of 22 points was Jill Telford and Brandon Goldsober.

The day was wrapped up with some afternoon tea and a celebratory drink to mark Godfrey Mann's big birthday. Prizes were presented to all of our winners on the clubhouse terrace on a glorious summers evening and then members gathered back on the coach for a journey back to South Herts.

Thank you to all the members who took part in this wonderful day. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did and we look forward to organising the next Away Day!
