On March 7th, Elizabeth Abrahams (MSTAT) and Esther Miltiadous (MSTAT) gave an interesting introduction to the Alexander Technique. Both teachers have local private practices as well as clients at the BBC and the Royal College of Music.
This was attended by 30 members.
They demonstrated how our bodies can be under stress in response to both physical and mental stimuli in all aspects of our lives, on and off the golf course. They gave us some insight into how we might be more self aware as tension builds up in our bodies. We were also introduced to the concept of “Constructive Rest” and they explained how lying flat for 10 minutes each day can relax and alleviate strain in our back.
It was interesting to learn that we can be taught to relieve pain and discomfort in our bodies by making simple changes to our posture and unhelpful habitual movements.
