Herts League Match Report - Sunday 12th September 2021
South Herts 9 - Bishops Stortford 3

A big day on Sunday for the Men’s Scratch Team, we played our last game of the Herts League season at home to Bishop’s Stortford GC. We went into the game knowing there were three possible outcomes; a win of 8 - 4 or better would get us promoted in Division 1, a draw or 7.5 points would ensure we stayed in Division 2, and a loss would mean relegation to Division 3.
I am pleased to say that we won 9 - 3 meaning we will now be competing in Division 1 next season taking on the best teams in the County!
After the morning foursomes session, the score was evenly poised at 2 - 2, courtesy of halves from the pairs of George & Liam and Nick & Jamie, and well done to Myles & Emile for getting yet another win, their 4th in a row making them our strongest foursomes pairing this season being unbeaten with 4 wins from 4!
We had our regular Ham, Egg and Chips for lunch and knew we needed 6 points in the singles session if we wanted promotion. In simple words we knew exactly what we had to do. I'm pleased to say we won the singles session 7 - 1, without a single loss! The final score finished with a strong win of SHGC 9 and Bishop’s Stortford GC 3.
The day ended with champagne on the terrace celebrating our promotion. Shoutout also to the Tigers Team who won their Semi Final on Friday and now have their final coming up against East Herts. It was a big weekend for SHGC!
A big thank you to everyone who has played for the team this season. I hope you enjoy being part of the team and I am confident we will get stronger, and our team spirit will keep growing as we head into Division 1 next season.
It is an honour and a privilege to be the captain of the South Herts Scratch Team and I look forward to many more moments like yesterday going forward.
