Another enthralling Hudson Trophy
After having to cancel last years Hudson Trophy due to the pandemic, our flagship event was held this year on Sunday 5th September.
Twenty Clubs from all around the country played this year and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.
The day began at the crack of dawn for a lot of our staff and volunteers. At 7am, our first players started to arrive to a cloudy South Herts..
David Stott, our starter for the 20th year in a row, announced the first teams off at 7.30am. The format of the golf was foursomes stroke play over 36 holes with a team A and B representing each club. By 10am, all of the teams had teed off and the sun had broken through for a warm day.
The leading Club after the first 18 holes was Coventry with a very impressive combined score of +1 with King's Lynn sitting in second place on +3. The South Herts team made up of our Head Pro, Bobby Mitchell and amateurs, Nick Martin, Liam Slade and George Leversuch made a steady start with a morning score of 151, +7.
The players were then given a two course lunch before heading out for their second round.
After 36 holes our South Herts team came in with a very respectable combined score of 13 over putting them in joint 5th place with King's Lynn.
The final stages of the event were very exciting with Sudbury and Gog Magog finishing on a combined 36 hole score of +8. The overall winner had to be decided with a play-off down the first hole, with Sudbury winning it with a birdie.
Congratulations to Sudbury on getting the win!
Unfortunately, the clubs being relegated this year are Ealing, Thorpe Hall, Wanstead and North Middlesex.
The day was rounded off with a presentation at around 8.00pm and the players tucked in to a dinner of steak and chips.
Thank you to all of our volunteers, catering team, committee, caddies and members for making our 2021 Hudson Trophy such a successful and memorable day. Congratulations to our team Bobby, Nick, Liam and George for producing some incredible golf. You made it very enjoyable for our members to watch and did the Club proud.
