South Herts Golf Club

Another brilliant Hudson Trophy!

We had another very successful Hudson Trophy all round yesterday.

The day started at the crack of dawn for some of the Hudson Committee, office staff and catering staff with players starting to arrive from 6:30am.

There were 20 clubs represented by a Professional and 3 of each club’s best amateurs competing in a 36 hole foursomes stroke-play competition with a team A and team B combining their scores. David Stott, for the 19th consecutive year, started all the players off the 1st tee for both rounds.

After the morning round, South Herts were looking really strong and in a three-way tie at the top with Kings Lynn and Ealing on 149 gross, but with lots of the teams only a few shots behind.

All the players enjoyed a buffet lunch before going out to play their second round.

Our past and present Captains were joined for a drink’s reception and lunch by Captains, General Managers and some presidents from the playing clubs as well as the county President and Heritage Director of the PGA.

There was lots of support from club members who followed round our teams of Bobby & Adam, Liam and Charlie.

After the afternoon round had been completed, South Herts finished in 8th position overall with a very respectable combined score of +20. The winners of the day were Ealing, finishing on 299 (11 over) and second place went to Woburn on 304.

Congratulations also to Ricky Lee of Boyce Hill Golf Club who got a hole in one on the 6th!

The Clubs finishing in the bottom 4 and therefore, unfortunately, relegated from next year’s competition were Berkhamsted, Crews Hill, Welwyn Garden City and Hendon.

A HUGE thank you to the all our staff, the Hudson committee, marshals, hosts and recorders for making the day so successful and memorable. Congratulations to our team – Bobby, Adam, Liam and Charlie for producing some incredible golf, you have done the club proud. Thank you to the caddies, Andy Ptohides, John Clark, Jamie Slade and Roger Churaman for all their advice, support and encouragement to the players too.

We have already received lots of positive feedback from other club’s managers, captains and players on the whole day. We also got a lot of praise from the PGA tournament referee, Ray.

We hope everyone enjoyed the day and we look forward to the Hudson Trophy 2020!
