A Perfect Hudson Trophy Day!
Well, what a fantastic day we had yesterday for our 60th Hudson Trophy!
The day began at the crack of dawn for most of our staff and volunteers. At 6.30am, our first players started to arrive to a somewhat misty South Herts at this time. Every player received a token for a bacon butty and a card for their round.
David Stott, our starter for the 18th year in a row, announced the first teams off at 7.30am. The format of the golf was foursomes stroke play over 36 holes with a team A and B representing each club. By 9.45am, all of the teams had teed off and the weather was perfect at 24 degrees!
The leading Club after the first 18 holes was Thorpe Hall with a very impressive combined score of -1 with Old Fold Manor sitting in second place on +3. The players were then given a 2 course lunch before heading out for their second round.
Our past and present Captains were joined by Captains and presidents from the other Clubs, as well as VIP's from Herts Golf Union, the County and Regional Secretary's. Bernard Gallacher also made a special guest appearance.
Many of our members turned up to watch the afternoon rounds and support our South Herts players, Bobby, Nick, Liam and Charlie who in 8th position after the morning round and still in the running!
After 36 holes our South Herts team came in with a combined score of 19 over putting them in joint 7th place with Hadley Wood.
The winners of the day were Old Fold Manor who's very impressive B team played to level par on both of their rounds while their A team stayed steady. Second place went to Thorpe Hall who produced some amazing golf in the afternoon rounds but unfortunately it just wasn't enough.
Unfortunately, the clubs being relegated this year are last years winners Kings Lynn, Moor Park, Royal Mid Surrey and Wentworth.
The day was rounded off with a presentation at around 7.15pm and the players tucked in to a dinner of steak and chips.
Thank you to all of our volunteers, catering team, committee and members for making our 2018 Hudson Trophy such a successful and memorable day. Congratulations to our team Bobby, Nick, Charlie and Liam for producing some incredible golf. You made it very enjoyable for our members to watch and did the Club proud. A big mention also to their caddies Jamie Slade, Roger Churaman, Marco Timanti and Andy Ptohides for advising, supporting and encouraging our players over the 36 holes.
We have already received a lot of positive feedback from players and Captains from other Clubs on how much they enjoyed the day overall and the food.
We look forward to the Hudson Trophy 2019!
