ICSL Match Report - Sunday 23rd April 2017

South Herts 4.5 – Stoke Park 2.5

We had an excellent result on the 23rd April with a 4.5 - 2.5 win against a very strong Stoke Park team.  Tim gave us the perfect start with a 2 up win over their plus 3 handicap number one player, followed by a good half from George against their captain, also a plus 2 handicap, and a great effort from Ed delivering a 2&1 win against another plus 2 with a very lengthy CV of golfing achievement!   Bob (2&1) and Tomasz (3&2) then came in with the vital wins that secured the points.

Inevitably given the calibre of the opposition a couple of them were going to get on a hot streak and be hard to live with so it's particularly pleasing that we won 4 and halved one of the 5 tight games which shows how well everyone competed and gives us a lot of confidence to take into the away games to come.

Two wins from our first 3 home games against the top 3 sides in the league is an excellent start to our season but there's still a very long way to go and I still think we're going to need to pick up an away win somewhere.  I'm convinced we'll get opportunities to do so either through our good play and/or the opposition missing a couple of key players on the day and it'll be up to us to be ready to take them.  

Our next two away games at Castle Royle and Ellesborough are on paper our best chances of picking up that vital away win with the match at Castle Royle next up on Sat 13th May so I'm very keen to go there with a strong team give ourselves the best chance of winning the game.
