South Herts Senior Scratch team played away at Veralum's tough course on Wednesday. Here is Captain, Alfie Schlosz', report on the day...
What a result. The spirit of Dunkirk revisited.
Final hole Par 5, 1 down.
Immaculate drive by Matthew. Centre of fairway, picture the scene.... Second shot requires a slight draw to a sloping green. Choice of club, essential. Hybrid ..... bated breath....execution of strike perfect...... Matthew left with a putt for eagle which is narrowly missed. Missed birdie attempt by opponent gives us a half and two valuable points.
Once again Matthew and Roger have shown that never say die attitude.. Well played indeed.
Our lead off pair of Ben & Bob contolled their match from the outset and were never troubled in winning 4 & 3. Ben undefeated to date.
Colin & Ian had great difficulty in coming to grips with this rather quirky course with its rather unfavourable bounces. They lost their match 5 & 4.
Once again Verulam has proved to be a difficult venue, but this half achieved today is a definite improvement to previous losses.
We are now 8 points ahead of second place Ashridge who have played 1 game less.
Game on.
My best regards
Alfie
