Herts Team Cup Match Report

SH 3 The Shire 1

This match was played in overcast conditions and I think you boys were lucky not to get wet.

The greens were understandably not up to scratch but this was due to the maintenance work carried out earlier in the week.

I didn’t play in this one but from what I’ve heard there were some tough matches out there.

Munners and Sunny were out first and they seemed to good for their opponents...making pars for fun on stroke holes and cruising to a 5/4 victory.

Second out were the Nicholl brothers.This match was very tight with birdies galore on the front nine.However these two old  campaigners know how to close out a match...and they did winning 3/1.

Third out was John and Paul.They were up against a pair who played some sparkling golf.They were 4 down with 4 to play but these two not giving up and taking the game to the 18th hole.Unfortunately just coming up short and losing 1 down.

Fourth out was Tommo and Billy.These two looked in charge when I saw them on the 15th and a birdie from Billy (a late replacement with an injured back)on the 17th sealed the win 2/1.Thanks Billy for stepping in a last minute and showing true grit...playing till the end with a painful injury.

Well played everybody this is a great win-especially against The Shire.

We are now in the semifinal and await the winners of Hartsbourne and West Herts.The semifinal will be played at a neutral venue.Will let you know as soon as I get the information from the HGU secretary.
